Es la capital del estado federado de Sajonia, en Alemania. Limita al noroeste con el distrito de Mei\u00dfen, al nordeste con el de Bautzen y al sur con el de S\u00e4chsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. Dresde se encuentra justo en el centro de la conurbaci\u00f3n hom\u00f3nima. Situada en el centro de Europa, constituye un nudo de transportes fundamental a la vez que un centro econ\u00f3mico de gran importancia.<\/p>\n<p>Esta aglomeraci\u00f3n, junto con la de Chemnitz-Zwickau y la de Leipzig-Halle, constituyen la llamada \u201cregi\u00f3n metropolitana del tri\u00e1ngulo saj\u00f3n\u201d. La poblaci\u00f3n total de Dresde supera los 500.000 habitantes y su correspondiente Regierungsbezirk o regi\u00f3n administrativa, el mill\u00f3n y medio.<\/p>\n<p>El Valle del Elba en Dresde fue Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la Unesco entre 2004 y 2009, pero perdi\u00f3 su sitio en dicha lista debido a la construcci\u00f3n de un puente a dos kil\u00f3metros del centro hist\u00f3rico.
