Es una ciudad del Estado federado alem\u00e1n de Sajonia a orillas del r\u00edo Chemnitz (de ah\u00ed su nombre), a 69 km al SE de Leipzig. Con casi 245.000 habitantes (2007), Chemnitz es la tercera ciudad m\u00e1s grande del Estado despu\u00e9s de Leipzig y Dresde.<\/p>\n<p>Los Aliados la bombardearon al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El 10 de mayo de 1953, el r\u00e9gimen de la Rep\u00fablica Democr\u00e1tica Alemana cambi\u00f3 su nombre por el de Ciudad Karl Marx (Karl-Marx-Stadt en alem\u00e1n).
